Winter Activities In Grand Lake, Colorado

During the winter months, with the lakes frozen over, the trees frosted, and the mountain peaks snow-capped, Grand Lake, Colorado becomes a beautiful wonderland.

Our Log House at Moose Lake Lodge sits on the edge of a 20-acre private lake, Sun Valley Lake, and the sunny southern exposure brings light and warmth to your stay. You can cozy up in your rental home and sit by the fire, read a book, play games… or you can venture out for recreation.

There’s plenty to do in the wintertime, including:

  • Snowmobiling – because of its 300 miles of trails (150 of which are groomed) and snowpacked streets, Grand Lake is known throughout the world as a snowmobiling mecca. One of the best features of our rental properties is that there’s plenty of parking for your snowmobile trailers, and we’re just a ½ mile from the one of the main trailheads. That means you only have to unload your snowmobiles once, upon arrival. During your stay, you’ll have easy access to all of the groomed trails, as well a pleasant ride to town (where snowmobiling is legal on the streets).
  • Cross Country Skiing – you can ski from your rental house, or go to the Grand Lake Nordic Center, which is nearby.
  • Snowshoeing – nothing could be easier or more peaceful than putting on a pair of snowshoes and walking in the woods.
  • Ice Fishing – people come from miles away to drill into the frozen waters of Grand Lake, Lake Granby, and Shadow Mountain Lake.
  • Ice Skating – bring your own skates and enjoy our private lake or the ice on Grand Lake.
  • Sledding – hills for sledding are all around the houses and cabins at Moose Lake Lodge, or you can go into the town of Grand Lake to a public hill.
  • Skiing And Snowboarding – Moose Lake Lodge is just 45 minutes from Winter Park Resort and 30 minutes Grandby Ranch ski area.
